About Us
The Hamilton Marathon Clinic caters for people of all ages and abilities. You do not have to be super fit to join our running or walking groups. Some members regularly enter organised events from 5km up to marathons. Others prefer the companionship and support that the club provides to help them maintain a sound level of fitness.
We have found that running or walking in groups twice a week provides a basis for most people to attain their goals. However, some members will run or walk three or four times a week to address their personal fitness programme.
We support the idea of goal setting, and encourage people to train for a specific event, be it 5km or 42km.
The Hamilton Marathon Clinic will complement your athletic endeavours and there are a number of experienced members in the club who can help with advice about training, shoes, pace judgement and injury prevention. If you wish, the Hamilton Marathon Clinic will provide you with a training schedule to reach your fitness target or to help you prepare for a specific event.
History Of HMC
The Hamilton Marathon Clinic was founded in 1978 in response to a growing interest in organised running programmes. During the ‘marathon boom’ of the 1980s many people completed marathons with the support of the club’s group running programmes. The Rotorua Marathon was a popular goal.
There are still a few Hamilton Marathon Clinic members who regularly complete marathons, but the emphasis has changed. In the last decade, the clinic has adapted to new life-styles. Our aim is to provide a friendly and supportive environment that promotes personal fitness and health through regular exercise.
We meet twice a week. On Sunday mornings we meet at 8:00am and the Tuesday evening meeting is at 5:30pm. Both are at the Hamilton Hawks clubrooms in Hillsborough Terrace (off Grantham Street, near the Victoria Bridge). Park for free in the large car park by the boat ramp.
Most walking/running groups go out for 45-60 minutes, but some do go for two hours or even more, particularly on a Sunday. Changing facilities, tea or coffee and socialising await your return.
We offer a free trial membership for four weeks. So why not come and see if you like ‘our style’.
If you decide to become a member of the Hamilton Marathon Clinic, annual membership is $70 (reduced if you join during a financial year).
